Why do people rely so heavily on AI to produce the final product instead of enjoying the process?

The answer may be painful: our evaluation system is the problem.

Take students as an example. This is also a system that cares deeply about results: scores, GPA, diplomas. Students carry enormous pressure. They have to deal with countless exams and assignments while worrying about future jobs and loans. In an evaluation system that only values the final product, students naturally choose the most efficient way to deliver that product.

When a student stays up late rushing physics and math papers, using AI to generate a decent-looking report for writing class and submitting it for a B is a very rational choice. It is not that the student does not want to learn; the system leaves them no time to learn.

We use grades, the product, to measure the process of learning. Now AI has arrived, and it can perfectly bypass the process and directly give you a polished product. This exposes all the weaknesses in our system at once.

If AI can create courses, AI can grade homework, and students use AI to complete homework… everyone is pretending to learn and pretending to teach. What exactly are we doing? This may be the real question AI forces us to reflect on.
