Let large models write code, not make up answers

This is an old problem: large models love to talk nonsense. For enterprise applications, that is simply a disaster. Would you dare let AI directly tell the boss what today’s sales were? What if it hallucinates and adds an extra zero? This company’s approach is very interesting. They did not let AI answer questions directly. Instead, they let AI write SQL queries.

In the past, we thought of AI as a black box that directly outputs results. Now its role has become that of a “translator.” When a user asks, “Are tips higher on rainy days?”, the AI does not fabricate a conclusion from thin air. It pulls weather data and sales data from the database, writes accurate code to query them, and finally shows the confirmed result.

The biggest benefit of this approach is determinism. Enterprise decisions need solid data, not vague guesses. Limiting AI’s ability to understanding intent and calling tools, while leaving calculation and logic to traditional databases, may be the mainstream direction for enterprise applications for a long time: a hybrid model of “large models plus traditional computing.”
