What AI Video Can’t Kill Is Pain-Driven Humor in B2B Marketing

What AI video cannot kill is the kind of humor in B2B marketing that comes from real pain.

When was the last time you voluntarily shared a B2B ad?

Not because your boss asked you to. Not because there was a reward. But because you genuinely thought, “This is so true,” “This is hilarious,” or “This is exactly me.”

For most B2B brands, the answer is probably “never.”

We are already used to the standard B2B video template: a well-dressed CEO speaking to the camera, employees smiling in a bright office shown in slow motion, and a hollow closing line about “empowering digital transformation for enterprises.”

Those videos usually get around 400 views, with 300 from company employees and another 100 from their family members.

But Luke, the founder of Deadpan Agency, says B2B marketing can be completely different.

For $50,000, you can make four episodes of a branded sitcom and get 30 to 40 video assets, enough for a B2B company to use for an entire year.

That is the standard package Luke offers.

Instead of spending $500,000 on a celebrity for one 30-second ad, you spend one-tenth of that budget to build a small universe for your brand, with recurring characters, ongoing stories, and jokes rooted in real customer pain points.

“We don’t make one-off ads. We make branded shows people want to keep following.”

Why is the ROI of this model so high?

Because B2B sales cycles are long. Customers usually need more than 15 interactions with a brand before they buy. One ad reaches them once. A series makes them come back on purpose.

More importantly, humor is the cheapest form of attention currency.

When you do not have the budget of Crypto.com hiring Matt Damon, or the boldness of Red Bull making extreme sports spectacles, humor is the only weapon that can make people stop, laugh, and share.

But most brands have one fatal misunderstanding about humor: they confuse it with simply trying to be witty.

Luke says the best B2B humor is never funny just for the sake of being funny. It has to be rooted in authentic customer pain.

“Don’t laugh at your customers. Laugh at the pain together with them.”

That is the golden rule he keeps repeating.

Many brands make the mistake of casting themselves as the hero of the story while the customer is a weak person waiting to be saved. But according to Donald Miller’s StoryBrand theory, the real hero is always the customer. The brand is only the Gandalf who provides the weapon and the guidance.

So a great funny ad is not saying, “Look how great we are.” It is saying, “Look, we understand exactly how bad this feels.”

Vector’s viral bathtub ad is the perfect example. It does not say, “Our ad platform is highly precise.” Instead, it exaggerates the desperation of a B2B marketer who has to go all the way to someone’s house and hold up an ad sign in their bathtub just to reach the target customer.

Anyone who has done marketing smiles instantly when they see it.

Because that is their daily life.

Right now everyone is talking about AI-generated video.

Some people say that in a year, every video ad will be AI-generated and video agencies will die.

Luke is not convinced.

“I still haven’t seen a truly funny AI video. AI can generate perfect visuals and scripts with flawless grammar, but it will never understand the despair of a B2B marketer revising slides at three in the morning.”

AI can replicate technique, but it cannot replicate lived pain.

It can generate a hundred jokes about “marketing is hard,” but it does not know which one will make a marketing director with ten years of experience quietly repost it to their own network.

That is where human value lives.

In an era where AI can generate almost anything with one click, what is truly scarce is not technology. It is taste: knowing what is funny and what is not, what resonates and what only makes people uncomfortable.

In the end, Luke gave all B2B marketers one piece of advice:

Before you publish your next video, ask yourself one question:

“If I didn’t work at this company, would I actually want to send this video to my colleagues?”

If the answer is no, then do not publish it.

Do not waste time and money producing content that will only be thrown into the internet’s trash can.

Try making your customers laugh once.

You may discover that B2B marketing does not have to be that boring after all.
