Your Taste and Judgment Are the Hard Currency That Never Depreciates

Stop asking whether AI will replace people.

The question is too old, like asking whether smartphones will replace landlines.

What AI will really eliminate is the person with no judgment, no taste, and only the ability to relay instructions.

One line from this interview is worth repeating: the value of future humans will come from judgment and taste.

This is not motivational soup. It is a brutal dividing line.

The model war looks exciting: OpenAI leads today, open-source models catch up tomorrow, and a new model tops the leaderboard the day after.

Now a new model appears almost every two weeks, sometimes every week. Open and closed models keep shaking the rankings.

What does that shaking mean?

It means they are converging.

As model capabilities get closer, execution work such as writing documents, making spreadsheets, scheduling, handling support, and generating code will quickly become like utilities. Nobody pays you a premium because you know how to use electricity. Likewise, “knowing how to use AI” will not stay scarce for long.

The real scarcity is knowing what AI should do, and what is worth keeping.

The harsher part is that AI is reshaping organizations.

Fireworks AI has only around 150 people, yet handles tens of trillions of tokens per day.

Why? Because AI compresses information flow. Reporting, alignment, summarization, retrieval, and analysis, many tasks previously done by middle management, are being taken over by systems.

Middle managers used to be information couriers: meetings, alignment, notes, follow-ups.

If future middle managers cannot make judgments and only relay information, they are in danger.

That is why you see near-extreme ideas like Jack Dorsey wanting 6,000 Block employees to report directly to him.

It sounds wild, but the direction is not absurd. When AI can automatically summarize organizational information for the CEO, hierarchy flattens.

What gets eliminated is not “people,” but inefficient interfaces inside old organizations.

On the other side, opportunity is exploding.

In the past, a product might take quarters to go from idea to launch. Now a prototype can be built over a weekend and tested the next week. Entrepreneurship is entering a Cambrian explosion: more people, smaller teams, lower costs, faster experiments.

That means young people do not necessarily need to join big companies as tiny screws. You can use AI to build a small product, a content system, a vertical tool, or a personal agent. It does not need to become a unicorn. If it supports your life, that is already a new kind of freedom.

But there is a condition: you cannot just be a prompt worker.

Someone with no aesthetic sense will produce more advanced garbage even with the strongest model.

Someone with no judgment will only make mistakes run faster with ten agents.

Pika founder Demi Guo offered an important metaphor in the interview: an agent should not just be a tool. It is more like a child you raise. You need to keep giving feedback, correcting it, training it, and helping it learn your expression, standards, and taste.

That matters.

Future resumes may not only say “what you can do,” but “what kind of you your AI has learned.”

The deeper moat is in data.

Public internet data is only a small part of the world’s data. Most data is locked inside companies, apps, and personal systems. The next stage of intelligence is not chewing through public webpages again, but activating private data.

That is true for companies, and for individuals too.

Your work, notes, projects, failed attempts, aesthetic preferences, and decision records will become fuel for your personal agent. Models are becoming public infrastructure, but your data and taste are private assets that cannot be copied.

This also explains why Gen Z is AI-native but cynical toward AI. They are not unable to use AI. They instinctively dislike soulless autogenerated content. They want authenticity. They want to feel that there is a real person behind it.

So stop worshiping “efficiency.”

Pure efficiency turns the world into smooth, correct, boring content. What truly moves people often comes from flaws, bias, obsession, and style.

AI will make mediocrity cheaper and sharpness more valuable.

If you are a young person who loves technology, the most important thing now is not anxiety, but training three things:

First, train judgment: know which problems are worth solving.

Second, train taste: know when an answer is not good enough.

Third, train your own AI: feed it your data, aesthetics, and methodology.

The future will not reward the people who merely use AI best.

It will reward people who can train AI into an extension of themselves.
