Musk fooled us: the core of SpaceX was never overtime

We have heard too many myths about Musk.

Insane all-nighters, impossible six-month deadlines, and an obsessive compression of 36-month schedules to the extreme.

Those seemingly impossible aggressive goals are never meant simply to squeeze employees. They are meant to force the real core contradictions to surface.

When you demand that a 36-month project be completed in six months, you immediately discover that among 1,000 things to do, 900 are not important at all, and the remaining 100 are the critical path that decides life or death.

What you need to do is either conquer them or delete them directly.

At the deepest level, this system turns all complex problems into quantifiable, iterative manufacturing problems.

Whether building rockets, lithium refining plants, or missile propulsion systems, the essence is using factory cadence thinking to break down, quantify, and control every step.

Even infrastructure projects must be managed like automotive production lines, with hour-level goal breakdown and progress tracking, using data instead of experience and iteration instead of gambling on luck.

We always like to attribute Musk’s success to genius and madness.

But what young technologists should really learn is not endless all-nighters. It is this counterintuitive, replicable, engineering-based way of doing things.

Adrenaline can burn only for a moment, while the right methodology lets you keep winning.
