Future software may no longer have menus

Have you ever wondered why our software interfaces look the way they do? They are full of lists, forms, and buttons. That is because they were designed for humans, and humans need to click to tell computers what to do. But now there is a concept called “generative UI,” and it is very interesting.

A future business scenario might look like this: you want to raise menu prices by 5%. You do not need to go into the backend, find product management, click edit, enter a number, and save. You directly tell AI your intention, and the AI generates a temporary interface containing confirmation information for you to review. The interface is dynamically generated based on your need, and disappears after use. This means most of the complex admin backends we now work so hard to design may no longer be necessary in the future.

For software development, this is disruptive. We will no longer design fixed feature entrances. Instead, we will design various atomic capabilities, then let AI assemble interfaces in real time according to user needs. Is this not the ultimate form of the “thousand faces for a thousand people” idea we have been talking about? It may still sound a little science-fictional now, but technology often evolves much faster than we imagine.
