The app you build with AI in a week can be copied in a day

AI can help you write an app in one weekend, but it cannot help you defend a business bottom line.

When everyone can get an entrepreneurial “super serum” from AI, we suddenly discover that the barrier to starting a company has been flattened, while the bottom line of human nature has been blasted into a deep pit.

This is not AI’s fault. It is because we treated the convenience of a tool as a shortcut for speculation.

There was a time when building software meant renting servers, hiring a technical team, and treating hundreds of thousands in startup capital as the entry ticket.

Now AI has overturned all of that. A solo developer can ship a product over the weekend, and startup cost may be only a few hundred dollars in cloud bills.

But the other side of the coin is this: anything you can build with AI, someone else can replicate in a day.

We have seen too many stories like this. A company finally reaches tens of millions in ARR, only to be copied inside out by competitors, losing its advantage overnight.

Everyone is crowding into the AI application layer, yet few are willing to settle down and build infrastructure or hardware products with real barriers.

When technical barriers no longer exist, the so-called product moat is nothing more than paper that tears with one poke.

Even scarier than endless competition is the way AI is blurring the line between entrepreneurship and fraud.

Delve, an AI compliance company that raised $32 million from YC and top VCs, was exposed for using AI to generate cookie-cutter compliance reports: 500 documents with only customer logos changed, even carrying the exact same errors.

So-called AI industry disruption was merely using AI to dress fraud in a shiny coat.

Silicon Valley’s worship of “hustle culture” is becoming a get-out-of-jail-free card for opportunists.

When falsifying things gets funding faster than refining products, and when VCs abandon gatekeeping through lazy due diligence built on “others invested, so I will follow,” the whole startup ecosystem becomes a game of greater fools.

The so-called “trust ecosystem” should never be a fig leaf for dereliction of duty.

But there are always people walking the right path.

Brick uses AI plus hardware to help buildings save 35% energy. Lead Poet uses distributed networks to push customer acquisition costs down to a few cents. They all use AI to improve efficiency, but their core is always solving real problems, holding the compliance line, and giving users real value.

AI gives every founder an equal chance to accelerate, but the ones who truly survive are never simply those who use the tool most smoothly.

Trust is the scarcest moat in the AI era. There is no close second.

AI can help you run faster, but only respect for rules and responsibility toward users can help you go further.
